Expand access to health services in the private sector through establishing (Public Private Partnerships).
The HIPS Project is expanding access to vital HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria prevention, care and treatment through Public Private Partnerships in which companies extend their treatment services to community members with technical support from HIPS and free Anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs from the Ministry of Health. HIPS also seeks to expand the number of qualified and accredited private sector health providers in the areas of HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and RH/FP. Private sector health providers are sent to the Mildmay Centre, an internationally recognized AIDS treatment and training center, for training and clinical placements. In addition, the Project develops Behavior Change Communication (BCC) materials and peer education programs for employees and surrounding community members. Materials and trainings cover issues such as stigma and discrimination, prevention, care and treatment of HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, RH/FP. Finally, HIPS facilitates provision of a variety of health products such as Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets, water purification and family planning products
Implement innovative approaches to support Orphans and other Vulnerable Children (OVC) through the private sector.
HIPS involvement in OVC care and support initiatives focus on development of partnerships with companies and organisations to leverage resources for OVC support in line with the companies' Corporate Social Responsibility strategies. HIPS has partnered with Nile Breweries Uganda Limited, Kakira Sugar Works through Kakira Out growers Rural Development Fund (KORD), Cornerstone Development, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), Kases Cobalt Company Ltd (KCCL), Bead for Life and Caring Hands to scale up OVC interventions at household level,reaching over 2,400 OVC.
Strengthen private sector employer organizations to support health initiatives.
The Project works closely with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor, Gender and Social Development and private sector employer organizations such as the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) and the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA). HIPS is partnering with FUE and UMA to strengthen their member services through involvement in national health policy issues and capacity in heath workplace programs.
